Oral Hypoglycemic Agents

Glimepiride (Glimauno) is a potent third generation sulfonylurea that acts as a secretagogue, meaning it stimulates the pancreas to secrete insulin and at the same time, it enhances the sensitivity of peripheral cells to insulin. It can be used as monotherapy or with other class of oral hypoglycemics. Consult your physician for dosing. Glimauno comes in 2 mg, 3 mg, 4 mg preparation.

Pioglitazone (Glitter) belongs to the class of thiazolidinedione (TZD) hypoglycemics. It  improves the  body’s sensitivity to insulin, reducing insulin resistance. It may also be combined with other sulfonylureas, biguanides, or insulin. Glitter comes in 15 mg and 30 mg preparation.
